House cleaning in Highlands Ranch, CO
Sparkles-N-Shine Cleaning is a family-owned company based in Thornton and serving the Denver metro area. This page gathers what the Highlands Ranch Community Association and Douglas County say on their own websites about how the community is run, its trash zones, and its history, and shows where a house cleaning or a move-out clean fits in.
About the area
A planned community, not a city
Highlands Ranch is not a city or a town. Douglas County says on its home rule page that Highlands Ranch is a metro district located in unincorporated Douglas County, and that it is not served by a city. Instead, the county says, the community is served by the Highlands Ranch Metro District, the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA), and Douglas County itself.
The HRCA history page explains how that came about. It says the Mission Viejo Company had a vision for the land, and that in 1979 the Douglas County Commissioners approved Planned Community District zoning, after which Mission Viejo bought about 22,000 acres. The first families moved in during 1981. Northridge Park, the Northridge Recreation Center, and Northridge Elementary opened in 1982, and C-470 opened in 1985.
The page lists later steps as well: James G. Toepfer Park was dedicated in 1996, Shea Homes acquired the Mission Viejo Company and Highlands Ranch in 1997, and Shea conveyed 874 acres of the Backcountry Wilderness Area to the HRCA in 2006, with the rest following in 2009. It also says dinosaur fossils, two triceratops and one duck-billed dinosaur, turned up during excavation at Windcrest in 2019 and went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
Homes built across decades of planned growth vary in age, size, and finish. The standard, deep, and premium deep levels let each one get the clean it needs, and the instant quote prices them by size.
Good to know
Trash zones, containers, and community rules in Highlands Ranch
Trash is one of the places where a Highlands Ranch household feels the community structure. The HRCA’s page on its opt-in trash provider says the association arranged a program with Waste Connections at a discounted rate for homeowners who choose to join. The page says the HRCA does not set the rates, that joining is voluntary, and that the program is not part of the HRCA assessment fee. It adds that every-other-week single-stream recycling is included at no extra charge.
The program runs on zones. The page says the community is split into five service zones, each with one pickup day a week, and that every hauler must collect on the day set for its zone. Homeowners whose containers are not picked up on the right day, or who leave them out, can face penalties under the community’s Residential Improvement Guidelines. Other haulers are allowed, but they must follow the same zone days. Some sub-associations contract for their own trash service.
The page also gives a rule that changed in 2026. Starting February 2, 2026, households in the program must use the standardized Waste Connections containers, and loose bags are no longer collected. Carts are available with a deposit. Check the HRCA page for the current details before you rely on any of this.
For hazardous items, Douglas County’s GreenWorks program says household hazardous waste disposal is available year-round by appointment at its Sedalia site. Its electronics page says recycling is free for county residents with proof of residency, and that reservations are required. Check both pages before you load the car.
