House cleaning in Thornton, CO

Thornton is the home base of Sparkles-N-Shine Cleaning, a family-owned company. This page collects what the City of Thornton says on its own website about trash, large items, and settling in, and shows how each piece fits a house cleaning, a move-out clean, or a rental turnover.

About the area

A city that began as a 1950s planned community

The city’s own history page says Thornton begins on the Eppinger family farm just north of Denver. In 1952 a developer named Sam Hoffman bought 400 acres there to build an affordable community meant to support itself, and in 1953 he held an open house for the first three finished homes.

The page adds that the schools, parks, and shops he promised mostly did not arrive under his watch, so the neighbors took matters into their own hands to create the community they had been promised. It also notes that farm families such as the Lambertsons still worked large farmsteads in the area that the city would one day surround.

Today Thornton is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government. According to the city’s page for new residents, the council has a mayor elected at large and eight council members, two from each of the four wards.

The first homes of that planned community were finished in 1953, so the oldest of them are about seventy years old. Older homes tend to show more wear on floors, grout, and fixtures, and that is the kind of home the deep clean level is built for.

Good to know

Trash, large items, and moving out in Thornton

A move-out or a rental turnover leaves more behind than most people expect, and the city has set programs for it. Its trash and recycling page describes a collection program with weekly trash pickup and recycling every other week, and says service is limited to one black container unless you order more. It also warns that a green recycling container filled with trash will not be emptied.

For bulky items, the city’s Click & Haul service collects them from the curb by appointment. The city says residents can use it for clutter in the garage or basement, replaced furniture or appliances, or a rental property cleanup. It accepts furniture, appliances, mattresses and box springs, hot water heaters, fence panels, branches, and remodeling debris, and the items must be stacked or bundled at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day. Hazardous materials such as paint, oil, and chemical cleaners are not accepted, and neither are tires, concrete, or televisions and computer monitors.

The city’s Infrastructure Maintenance Center takes some items from Thornton residents on weekdays, including refrigerators, dishwashers, water heaters, motor oil, and organic material. The city says paint, televisions, furniture, and general trash debris may not be dropped off there, and its Waste Wizard tells you where each item can go.

If you plan to put a dumpster on the street, the city’s right-of-way pages list on-street containers under a traffic control permit application, and they say the permit fees do not apply to on-street containers for single-family homes.

Plan the work in this order: haul first, clean second. Cleaners can only reach the counters, floors, and shelves once the large items are gone.

Move-In / Move-Out

Click & Haul takes the furniture and the bulky leftovers. After that, a move-out clean covers what a haul cannot: inside the oven, refrigerator, and cabinets, baseboards, window tracks, and the bathrooms.

Residential Cleaning

Houses here range from the first 1953 homes to much newer ones. The instant quote asks about your home’s size and the level of clean you want, so an older house and a newer one are each priced for what they need.
