House cleaning in Broomfield, CO

Sparkles-N-Shine Cleaning is a family-owned company based in Thornton, a short drive from Broomfield. This page collects what the City and County of Broomfield says on its own website about trash and recycling, large items, and short-term rentals, and shows where a house cleaning or a move-out clean fits in.

About the area

One government that is both a city and a county

Broomfield’s own “by the numbers” list says the community was founded in 1877 and incorporated in 1961. Residents adopted a home rule charter in 1974, and on November 15, 2001 Broomfield became a city and county. That is why the official name is the City and County of Broomfield, and why one office handles services that most places split between two governments.

The city’s about page describes a community planned with a balance of homes and businesses, with generous open space. It lists the Broomfield County Commons Open Space, which has sports fields, walking paths and the Paul Derda Recreation Center, and the McKay Lake Nature Area, which has a trail around the lake and a bike park.

The same page says Broomfield has more than 8,000 acres of preserved open space and a wide range of housing, from starter homes and townhomes to condos, apartments, and large custom houses. It also says Broomfield children attend schools in several districts, including Boulder Valley, Adams 12 Five Star, and Jefferson County. Which district serves a home depends on the address.

A mix of homes that large means cleaning needs differ from one address to the next. A compact condo, a townhome, and a big custom house each take different time and supplies, and our online quote asks for the size of the home so the price fits the job.

Good to know

Trash carts, spring cleanup, and rentals in Broomfield

The city and county contracts with Waste Connections of Colorado for curbside trash and recycling. The Residential Waste Services page says the program covers single-family homes and small buildings of seven units or fewer that are not in an HOA with its own hauler contract, and it also covers homes in an HOA that has no contracted hauler. Service means weekly trash pickup and recycling every other week.

The city’s page says residents choose a 35-gallon, 65-gallon, or 95-gallon trash cart, and every home gets a 95-gallon recycling cart at no added cost. If you live in an HOA that has its own contract, your hauler may be different, so ask your HOA first.

Large items have their own program. The city’s Spring Cleanup page says the city offers it at no charge, so residents can set out large, non-hazardous items that haulers do not normally take. Collection is split into four areas on four Saturdays in the spring, and items must be at the curb by 7 a.m. The list of accepted items includes furniture, bed frames, box springs, mattresses, carpet, cabinets, and washers and dryers. Computers, TVs, tires, paint, and appliances with a Freon unit are not accepted.

For items the Spring Cleanup does not take, the city points residents to the Boulder County Hazardous Material Management Facility, which it says is open to Broomfield residents year-round at no cost. The city also says it has no permit process for keeping a trash dumpster on a residential property, as long as the dumpster does not become a nuisance to neighbors.

On short-term rentals, the city has one clear rule. A stay under 30 days must be in the owner’s principal residence, and the city says a license is required and the license number must appear in every advertisement.
